PlanET Working Groups Will Tap Local Expertise

Posted 01/12/2012

Working groups comprised of citizens with specialized knowledge and interests are being assembled to address issues related to strengths and weaknesses identified at the community forums held last November.

The first series of PlanET community forums, held last November, was an effort to gather public input on the region’s assets and challenges. Several themes emerged from that work – interrelated matters that, collectively, represent regional issues requiring further discussion. Working groups comprised of citizens with specialized knowledge and interests are being assembled to tackle these matters, with each group assigned one specific theme. Working group meetings will provide an opportunity to dig more deeply into the identified issues. And the ideas generated from group sessions will help the next phase of the PlanET process to engage, educate, and develop a shared direction for the region.

Working groups will be formed around five themes:

  • Transportation and infrastructure
  • Economy and workforce
  • Environment
  • Healthy communities
  • Housing and neighborhoods

The working groups will meet after each round of regional forums, with the first session to be held in a few weeks, and members will be asked to identify and discuss regional strengths, opportunities, and challenges. Subsequent group sessions will work on specific recommendations for regional priorities and implementation strategies.

Individuals from the PlanET consortium as well as the general public are invited to participate in the working groups. Please contact Amy Brooks at contact@planeasttn.org or 865-215-2500 for more information about the five topic areas and how you can participate. After the initial round of group meetings, times and locations of future sessions will be decided upon by working group members.
