Outreach Series 1 Meeting in Box focused on the strengths and challenges of the East Tennessee Region and on specific community the participants reside in. Over 200 people from 20 organizations participated in this first round of input gathering via a Meeting in Box.

Community Strengths:
  1. Small town and family oriented people; People, values and outlook; Quiet place, close knit community. 
  2. Arts and social opportunities exist and are affordable; Colleges and universities and high schools give at levels opportunities to get involved with cultural and athletic activities at all times 
  3. Leadership in cities and county government; good planning and zoning. 
Regional Strengths:
  1. Scenic beauty, farms and openspace; Scenic beauty and the way people care about property.
  2. Recreation, lakes, mountains 
  3. Opportunities for jobs and places to shop
Community Challenges:
  1. Public transportation
  2. Incentivize use of existing vacant properties as they are already on existing infrastructure
  3. Infrastructure (i.e., roads, utilities) and traffic 
Regional Challenges:
  1. Business improvement increased economic opportunities and work/job opportunity
  2. More improvement of communication and relationships between the cities and counties within our region acknowledging diff. and build upon them
  3. Time efficient public transportation
