Meeting in a Box

Outreach Series 2 Meeting in a box is designed to encourage group conversation about the future residents want to see for the region. It then asks participants to prioritize ideas for a regional vision and finally to identify how these future priorities will apply to individual communities.

  1. Create a culture that values entrepreneurial efforts/spirits
  2. Valuing diversity in workforce opportunities
Transportation and Infrastructure:
  1.  Maintain current/existing systems while providing additional options (biking/walking, etc)
Housing and Neighborhoods:
  1. Preserve greenspace/farmland & undeveloped areas w/inter connectivity of mixed use development
  2. More connected neighborhoods – to resources & services
Healthy Communities:
  1. We’ll think of obesity like we think of cigarettes today
  2. Leverage of agricultural assets in the region to provide healthy & local food
Environment:
  1. Preserve natural beauty through re-establishing/restoring natural ecosystems
  2. Clean Air/Water
Additional Comments:

Why will people want to stay, move to, or visit the region?

  • The natural beauty of the region captures people. The culture and mix of smaller town feel and resources of the university and amenities of larger town.
  • Access to natural environment while close to dense clean urban areas.
  • Natural beauty – maintain. Slower pace of life. Economy/affordability.
  • Natural environment, cost of living and environmental tourism (hiking, biking, etc.)
  • Cost of living, jobs, quality of life.
  • Quality of life/seasons/people/lifestyle resources.
  • Combination of economy, amenities, life cycle and enlightened populus
  • Culture that embraces a healthy live/work environment

Other issues related to the future of the region?

  • Attitude – welcoming and assimilation of newcomers to our community.
  • Ownership and responsibility of living here.
  • ? and Future implications of current political decision
  • Education, Education, Education
