Meeting in a Box

Outreach Series 2 Meeting in a box is designed to encourage group conversation about the future residents want to see for the region. It then asks participants to prioritize ideas for a regional vision and finally to identify how these future priorities will apply to individual communities.

Economy and Workforce:
  1. Greater employment opportunities in region with options available for higher wages
  2. Region will be a competitive, world-class community
Transportation and Infrastructure:
  1. Increased walking/biking throughout communities (connectivity)
  2. (TIE) a. Bus/flexible demand-responsive transit, and b. More electric cars
Housing and Neighborhoods:
  1. Affordable & comfortable housing for everyone
  2.  (TIE) - a. Walkable & more accessibility to local daily needs, and b.  Development & growth that allows for green space
Healthy Communities:
  1. Encouraging prevention efforts to curb childhood obesity & END subtance use and abuse
  2. (TIE) a. Getting a handle of air quality, b. Tele-health will provide additional health care options for the region, and c. Whole community health support & infrastructure considered in all policy decisions
Environment:
  1. Increased awareness of land use management
  2. (TIE) Environment will be more preserved/protected with increase of community responsibility, and b. Clean air & water
Additional Comments: Why will people want to stay, more to, or visit the region?
 - This region is not like everywhere else, particularly with the Great Smokey Mountain National Park!
- Moving here will be by invitation only (ex: jobs/gated communities)
- Competitive (not just in jobs) but as a great place to live, raise a family and grow old
- Friendly/warm people
- Great recreational opportunities
What will the regional vision look like in your Blount County community?
- All industrial parks as well as Pellissippi Place will be utilized
- Blount County will provide two levels of transportation other than personal vehicle (rapid & flexible transit); Higher educational opportunities will become more accessible; Healthcare will attempt to cover cradle to elder care; Resources (public/private) will be controlled and managed through stewardship and access
- Expansion of the Blount County greenbelt to connect schools
- Blount County tax base and revenue will increase due to the increase in job opportunities and higher wage availability
- Healthier communities throughout Blount County, by all standards of measurement!
