Meeting in a Box

Outreach Series 2 Meeting in a box is designed to encourage group conversation about the future residents want to see for the region. It then asks participants to prioritize ideas for a regional vision and finally to identify how these future priorities will apply to individual communities.

Economy and Workforce: 1. Regular education opportunity improved/science & tech:
  • Opportunity for low income student to go to higher education - have access to higher education and job opportunities
  • More variety in vocational and technical fields
  • More specialized skill training in high school so students are capable of getting a job
  • More classes in existing vocational & technical centers
  • Apprenticeship Programs
2.  Green business & jobs
  • Clean factories & jobs
Transportation and Infrastructure:
  1. City Bus
  2. Bicycle paths/green trails
Housing and Neighborhoods:
  1. Design neighborhoods around service areas – “Community Centers” within neighborhood
  2. Blend public housing into mainstream areas with good landscaping & and access to physical
Healthy Communities:
  1. Free screenings in public areas
  2. Insurance for everyone (overhaul of medical system)
  1. Clean & accessible to all at a reasonable cost
  2. Maintain and improve natural resources
Additional Comments:

Why will people want to stay, move to, or visit the region?

    • Move – there are no job opportunities. Need to develop jobs.
    • Move here – good cost of living – young more transient – leave for promotion
    • Preserve natural resources
    • Friendliness & beauty of area
    • Regional area – friendly so much to do
    • Cultural opportunities
    • Natural beauty of area
    • Availability of affordable education
    • Four seasons
    • Can live rural but be to city within 30 min
    • Affordable tax base

Other issues related to the future of the region.

  • Community – develop partnerships that work/focus on key areas of change
  • Better planning toward needs as determined as priorities
  • Focus on child development
  • Need for transitional shelters
